See how AMD uplifts artist Howie Kim in finding his new inner world — transforming lockdown anxiety into inspiration for creation.
Over 60 percent of Gen Z in Asia reported a decline in mental health since COVID-19 struck, citing worries about family, friends and their careers. Some found relief in exercise, others took on new identities as plant parents. Many more jumped on the basque cheesecake and sourdough baking bandwagons. But with human interactions in short supply and no concrete end in sight, there was only much gratification these extrinsic sources of entertainment could bring.
Freelance visual artist, Howie Kim, was no different. His signature style of surreal and whimsical art pieces were fuelled by social interactions—without which he was drained of inspiration. Anxious and frustrated with the uncertainties, he tuned inwards for solace, and to his surprise, found an inner world that could both inspire and heal. He gives us a peak into this world, showing how in the darkest of times, looking within can give us the strength to adapt and grow.
